Gear

I am not a gear junkie. I am frugal and stubborn, so my philosophy toward gear is: make it work. I get most of my stuff second hand, rarely spurge on ultra-light gear, and generally just tough it up and carry whatever I deem essential. Everyone has their own way of hiking and making things work, so I don't think my gear list will be particularly useful to anyone other than me.  If you are curious about what I am currently carrying/using feel free to send me a message, but re-typing everything was too time-consuming for me since I only made a few small changes.

Below is a summary of what I started with on my Appalachian Trail thru-hike. I kept most of this gear through the end of my hike, used it for several short weekend trips, and am planning on using the majority of it again on my Colorado Trail thru-hike. 1. Cool! Have you considered just taking sections of the guide book and have someone mail you new sections? They sell a loose leaf version.

  2. I really want to have the whole book so I can make my own notes in it and then have it as a keepsake. I know it is unnecessary weight, but I'm kind of sentimental so it will be worth the weight to me :)

  3. Hey! I find your blog inspiring and helpful as I plan my thru hike next year. Would you be willing to do a post-AT gear list to show any changes to your original gear?
